Recently I got a mail asking me these exact questions about receiving Google Adsense payment from Nigeria and how to make money with an IT/entertainment blog.

Ade thanks for asking these questions. Let’s attack the questions one at a time.

Do Nigerians Really Get Paid Google Adsense Money in Nigeria?

Yes they do receive payment from Nigeria. Google is world-class company- they would not hold back on a payment except you there are problems with your account.

Mk, have you received payment yourself?

No … I haven’t because I have not reached the $100 minimum amount and I don’t think I will get to that amount because I have stopped monetizing all of my online assets with Google Adsense.

This blog just has a patch of Google Adsense that I will soon remove after finding something better to replace it with. My other blogs do not have Google Adsense adverts. This is how much I have in Google Adsense account now….

This money was made when I started out online with the few blogger blogs I had.So that’s it. I don’t really consider making money with Google Adsense so I refuse to add them.

By the way , another reason I am sure Google Adsense will pay you when due is the fact that I have received a physical posted mail from them from America when I changed a certain setting in my Google Adsense account.

So bottom line is, if your reach the threshold and have no problem with your account, you will get paid –usually with checks.

How Would You Monetize An IT/Entertainment Blog Or Website From Nigeria

First lets get some things right. Let me ask you some important questions first.

1. Why are you combining IT/entertainment?
2. What will you be discussing on your blog regarding this 2 to unrelated topics.
3. What problems will you be solving on your blog.
4. What kinds of information will you be posting on this blog?
5. Who are your target readers?( location, age ,interest)
6. What are their dreams and aspirations?
7. What do they want to learn?
8. What do they search for online?
9. How can you help them with your blog?
10. Why information would  they want to read on your blog?
11. Are people buying products and services on this niche?
12. Which people are buying information in this niche?

When you get the answers to these questions you will be guided on what to write on your blog and information they will value. It will also help you know they things you can sell and promote too.

These are the exact things I did and is doing for this blog. I am targeting Nigerians interested in making money online and my content is totally focused only on this. I am also building a list of friends interested in this topic too.

For your blog, here is what I suggest:

You might want to consider separating the 2 topics. Either you write about IT or entertainment.

Now if you are writing about entertainment, you will likely own a news blog (I don’t know what you actually plan to do) and news blogs are most times hard to monetize because the information you post will likely be already freely available online.

Unless you are going write highly sort after information that you can post first before others (like having personal interviews with Nigerian hot movie and music stars). Most entertainment blogs make money online with adverts.

Another important thing is that people don’t spend money much on the entertainment niche online because there are usually found free online. See YouTube to see what I mean.

But if you think you can bring a unique your angle to this niche then you can go ahead and start a blog on entertainment.

But if you decide to go the IT route, even better- I think.

I don’t know what you want to write on In the IT blog but this is what I will advice:

1. Write about articles and topics people will be looking for not what you love.
2. Write to solve problems in the niche not just for writing sake.
3. Find out the problems people have and solve them in the article on the blog.
4. Write about reviews of IT products and services (make money with this by linking to these products on Amazon)

How To Make Money With Your IT/Entertainment Blogs

Basically, you can make money online using this online business models. Using any of this business models boils down to one thing-you need to sell something or make an offer in exchange for cash.

Your blog will not just make money on it own –it is a tool to help you make money, you need to sell a product or service on it before you can make money.

Let me get into specifics here

1. Advertisement

Before you can really make any money with advertisement you need to grow your blog traffic. So you need to work hard on this. You can use Google Adsense or other ways you can monetize your blog or website. You can sell the white space on your blog to third party advertisers or directly to advertisers on your blog. These are they other ways you can monetize your blog or website with advertising.

2. Affiliate Marketing

You can review IT/entertainment products that solve problems people have in your niche and linking to them using affiliate links. Here is a list of affiliate programs accepting Nigerians, you can start with them. You make money when people buy these items with your link.

For IT/entertainment niche, Amazon affiliate program would be great place to start.

If I were you, I will build a list of people interested in what I write about and promote IT products to them. I will make affiliate income in the process.

3. Sell Your Product Or Service

I don’t know if you are skilled in any IT skill or have information in IT that you can train people with. If you do, you can create a product from this information and sell it to people (people in your list). For example, if you know how to create soft wares, you could write an e-book to help people learn the basics of soft ware creation and sell it.

You can also start a service to help create soft wares for people for a fee.

(Your blog here will become a platform to draw people interested (likely customers) in that service to you.

You get the idea.

These are three basic ways I believe you can make money with your IT/advertising blog.

Very Important Things You Need To Do

1. Build A List

This is a must as long as you are serious about making money online in any niche.

So join MailChimp or ListWire (I just stumbled on ListWire, a free list building service, I can’t vouch for them).

2. Be Patient

I mentioned this in my blog post on affiliate marketing tips for Nigerians. You will not make money overnight, it may take you some months even because you need to build a list and traffic and grow your blog to a level where it starts earning money.

So be focused.
