So in this post I am going to talk about how  much it cost and how to build a website or blog from Nigeria with as low as N5000 . I will reveal something that will shock a lot of people and make a lot of people likely hate me.

Before I start ,I need to make some distinction between the different types of websites found online.

Types Of Websites

There are many kinds of websites on the internet. There are many ways you can categorize these websites but I will roughly categorize them in 2 ways.

1. Static websites
2. Service websites

1. Static Websites

These are websites with a few pages for the sole purpose of just holding information people can just read. They may not be updated very often. A good example could be the website of a nursery school where information about the school is published.

2. Service Websites

These are big websites specially created to accommodate a lot of users. Examples are  email services and special kinds of online services like  facebook.com , photobucket.com etc.

How You Can Build A Website.

There are many ways to build a website. You can use html templates you can use php. don’t worry if these things don’t make sense to you, they still don’t make sense to me either.

Many websites require coding skills and web design skills and some don’t. Many of these websites costs N150 000 , N200 000 or even more especially if you are outsourcing it to web designers. But thrust me, you don’t need to know these things or pay that much to build or own a website.

How To Build A Website Or Blog Without Knowing Web Design

I am not a web designer or very knowledgeable with web programming and coding but I have created and built many websites (like the one you are reading now).

How ? you may ask…

My secret weapon is the free software called WordPress. I have  written an article on how to setup a website or blog using WordPress.

It is what I use to build websites and blogs from scratch without much web design knowledge. It is very easy to learn and very versatile. Visit www.Wordpress.org to see what can be created with this software. There is almost nothing you cannot do with this software.

So to create a website all I do is buy a domain name and web hosting then install WordPress on it.

Simple.

How Much Does It Cost To Do This?

It only cost the price for a domain name ,hosting ,knowledge of installing and setting up WordPress properly and time.

In monetary terms , if you are buying domain name and webhosting from NameCheap and FatCow respectively ,it will cost less than $70 ( less than N10 000)  altogether. But if you are using syskay ,a Nigerian web hosting reseller ,you will need from just N2500…(this is the price for 2000mb bandwidth and 500mb web hosting size. Other bigger sizes have their price tag)

Installation of WordPress is done freely with a script found on these web hosting services. You can read how to install and setup WordPress website or blog to install yours.

I will be frank with you, the  installation of the software is easy but setting it up properly maybe a bit difficult for many people. There are very many important things you need to do to setup your WordPress website properly.

Conclusion

Many people still pay N150 000 or more to build websites and blogs . These web properties can be created very, very cheaply now a days. You don’t have to pay that much to own a website or blog.
